Fort Worth Stock Show

Brody Sharp in Showmanship Class

Aledo ISD students and Aledo FFA members Travis West, Jack Hare, Ryley Zalar and Brody Sharp competed at the Fort Worth Stock Show in the 12th annual Chisholm Challenge. The Chisholm Challenge had more than 170 exhibitors from all over the state competing in several events. This competition allows the opportunity for Equestrians with Disabilities to compete in the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) events including Showmanship, Walk and Trot, Trot/Jog, Western Horsemanship, Trail Horse Class, and Canter/Lope Class. The Aledo participants train out of the Stars and Stripes Stable in Weatherford, and had a wonderful showing. All participating centers like the Stars and Stripes Stable are Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International members (PATH). PATH fosters safe professional, ethical, and therapeutic equine activities through education, communication, research and standards.  This ensures that all competitors have certified instructors, and trained horses, and it recognizes and respects all safety requirements. The benefits of therapeutic horseback riding are well established. It enables riders with physical and mental challenges to strengthen their bodies, and empowers their spirits. The Chisholm Trail Challenge is set to help competitors demonstrate their hard work and talents.

Aledo members had an extremely strong showing with Travis West winning the Walk/Jog, Western Pleasure, and the AQHA portions of the program.
